Full Time Program Assistant to Work With The Homeless

Daytime drop-in program for the homeless located on the Fellowship Place campus in New Haven, CT is recruiting for a full time Program Assistant.  Hours are  7:30am-3pm Monday-Thursday and 8:30am-3:30pm on Sunday with  occasional overtime.   Primary responsibilities  include  greeting walk-ins, basic needs assessment, setting up and overseeing meal service, laundry schedule, and shower schedule.  This position will also have an assigned caseload and  be responsible for helping individuals connect with shelter services, primary and behavioral health care, government entitlement programs, and employment programs.  Applicants must be comfortable with data entry and electronic record keeping.  Successful applicants will be committed to working  with the poor and individuals with mental illness or a co-occurring substance use disorder and mental illness; prior experience in a shelter or drop-in program preferred.  General knowledge of motivational interviewing and harm reduction extremely helpful.   Minimum of an Associate’s Degree with course work in Psychology; BA/BS preferred.  This is  a good entry level position for a  young professional seeking experience in the social service field and exposure to the needs of underserved client populations.

Salary $23/hour with paid time off, health benefits, and retirement plan.
