Today was a wonderful day for Fellowship Place.  Kolmar Americas and American GreenFuels donated $10,000 to provide approximately 3,500 meals and food bags for distribution to individuals served by the agency for the duration of the Coronavirus crisis.  Many of the agency’s clients rely on the agency for at least 1-2 meals per day and for daily structure and support.  The current public health crisis we face is especially scary and disruptive to those with limited resources and few if any natural supports. Fellowship Place remains open for limited hours and is providing “to go” meals and access to other basic needs like showers and laundry for about 75 clients a day. Corporate partners like Kolmar Americas and American GreenFuels help make it all possible.

Fellowship Place partners with Yale University and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program

Fellowship Place was very fortunate again this year to partner with Yale University and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). Nine student volunteers, led by Tylar Bloch and Bessie Bauman, conducted free income tax preparation services on campus on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15. A majority of individuals working with Fellowship’s Employment program are new to filing taxes and may not have the financial resources to pay a for-profit tax preparer. The volunteers provide a valuable service that helps our clients understand and fulfill their tax filing responsibilities and get their tax refunds in a timely manner. Special thanks to Tylar, Bessie, and their awesome team!

Fellowship Place Women Artist Exhibit at The Women and Family Life Center in Guilford

Seven women from Fellowship Place’s Artship group recently exhibited their work at The Women and Family Life Center in Guilford. The exhibit titled “Art, Healing & Being a Woman” explored the relationship between art, mental health, and womanhood. Each artist shared her personal story about the role art plays in her recovery. In addition, the agency’s Expressive Arts Coordinator Joyce Gendler facilitated a group art project for the artists, attendees, and members of the Center. The collaborative project was donated to the Women and Family Life Center.

Peace and Serenity this Holiday Season from Fellowship Place

Fellowship Place awarded $180,000 Responsive Grant from the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven

The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven (CFGNH) has awarded Fellowship Place a three-year $180,000 grant through The Foundation’s largest annual competitive grants process. The awarded funds will provide general operating support for Fellowship Place’s core programs.

“Fellowship Place is very grateful for The Community Foundation’s continued support.” says Executive Director, Mary A. Guerrera, “We are honored to be chosen as a 2019 award recipient. The Responsive Grant will help the agency bridge the gap between government contracts and the true cost of providing services. Over the last year, Fellowship Place has expanded its employment services for individuals with mental illness and a criminal record and for the homeless. These projects may have been eliminated without the Foundation’s backing”.

For sixty years, Fellowship Place has provided a supportive community fostering mental health for some of the poorest and most vulnerable members of the community. The agency’s campus, located in New Haven’s Dwight neighborhood, is open every day of the year, including holidays, and offers counseling, day programs, employment and education services, as well as forty five units of permanent supported housing. More than 800 individuals are served annually, with the majority coping with serious mental illness, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, and social isolation. Fellowship Place is committed to helping the mentally ill, their families, and the public understand and appreciate that with proper treatment and support, people with a mental illness can be successful and contribute to the vibrancy of the community.
