Fellowship Place’s 2017 Holiday Celebration
Clients, staff, and Board members of Fellowship Place came together to celebrate the Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa holidays on Thursday, December 21. The annual holiday celebration offers togetherness and warmth for Fellowship Place clients who do not have family to celebrate with during the holiday season. Special thanks to Stop & Shop & the CT Food Bank for donating the food, and to Bombas for donating holiday gifts.
Thanks to the Jamie A. Hulley Arts Foundation, Fellowship Place Clients Learn Salsa!
This fall thanks to a donation by the Jamie A. Hulley Arts Foundation, Fellowship Place has hosted a weekly salsa dance class. As the class has developed over the last several weeks, one thing that has become obvious is this class is not just about dancing. With patient and energetic coaching by Kristie Entwistle, participants are learning and practicing social skills and improving their ability to concentrate and focus. Another wonderful example of the therapeutic value of the non-traditional mental health services offered at Fellowship Place. So grateful to our partner the Jamie A. Hulley Arts Foundation for making this all happen.
Fellowship Place’s 2017 Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon Celebration on Nov. 21, a Festive Feast!
On Tuesday, November 21, Fellowship Place hosted a Thanksgiving celebration for over 175 clients from across all agency programs. Volunteers from the agency’s Board of Directors and Stop & Shop provided raffle prize food baskets and helped to set up, serve, and clean up after the event. The Connecticut Food Bank donated all the turkeys and contributed many of the side dishes for the feast. Entertainment was provided by in-house band, The Ships, part of the agency’s Expressive Arts program. Members of the agency’s programs shared with each other what they were thankful for this year. A wonderful time was had by all at this annual event, which builds community and hope for recovery among everyone served at the agency.
Fellowship Place awarded $135,000 Responsive Grant from the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven
The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven (CFGNH) has awarded Fellowship Place a two-year $135,000 grant through the Foundation’s largest annual competitive grants process. The awarded funds will provide general operating support for Fellowship Place’s core programs.
“Fellowship Place is very grateful for the Community Foundation’s continued support,” says Executive Director, Mary A. Guerrera, “we are honored to be chosen as a 2017 award recipient. This funding is especially critical this year because the agency has experienced state budget cuts that threaten vital services for adults living with a serious mental illness. Fellowship Place provides a full range of therapeutic support and rehabilitation services that promote independence, wellness, and a meaningful life.”
In its 58th year of service, Fellowship Place touches the lives of over 750 people annually, the majority of which suffers from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or major depression. Nearly all face poverty, inadequate housing, unemployment, and poor physical health. Almost half have been homeless at least once in their lives. Open 365 days a year, Fellowship Place’s campus is a multi-purpose, one stop center where clients receive counseling & case management services to help them learn, practice and refine social skills and other daily living skills that will help them increase their stability, self-sufficiency, and independence so they may lead a productive life in the community. Services include help with basic needs, meals, socialization, skill-building groups, job training & career development services, expressive arts programs, computer classes, physical recreation and more. The agency also provides supportive housing for 45 individuals who live in our apartment buildings located on and near the main campus.
