Fellowship Place Members take a 4-day Group Trip to Camp CONNRI

In July, twenty-four clients and four staff attended the Salvation Army’s Camp CONNRI in Ashford, CT. The camp offers a variety of fun in the sun and creative activities including swimming, kayaking, hiking, arts and crafts, and dances. For most clients, the trip is their first vacation ever and a welcome change from urban life. The trip is sponsored in part by the Birgitta Johnson Campership Fund.

Fellowship Place Steppers participate in the 2015 Walk Against Hunger for the CT Food Bank and the 2015 National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Walk Benefitting NAMI Elm City Chapter

On Saturday May 16 and Sunday, May 17, the Fellowship Place Steppers participated in both the 2015 National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Walk benefiting NAMI Elm City Chapter, and the 2015 Walk Against Hunger for the CT Food Bank.

Saturday’s walk Walk Graphicfor the NAMI Elm City Chapter was held at Bushnell Park in Hartford. NAMI CT is an important resource in our state that provides critical support to Connecticut families and individuals impacted by serious mental illness.

Sunday’s walk for the CT Food Bank was held at the College Woods Pavilion at East Rock Park. An important partner in Fellowship Place’s Healthy Meals Initiative, the CT Food Bank has provided our agency with 21,177 lbs of food this past year, at a reduced cost. This partnership is vital to the success of Fellowship’s Healthy Meals Initiative, which offers our clients access to free nutritional meals daily, with menus that increase their intake of fruits, leafy greens, vegetables, & whole grains. The program also exposes them to a variety of educational programs to help them make healthy food choices.

Fellowship Place is participating in The Great Give® 2015, a 36-hour online giving event May 5-6 at www.giveGreater.org

Dear Friends,

With winter behind us, you are probably dreaming about your summer vacation – perhaps a trip to a sunny beach resort, a National park, or historic city. Most of the men & women we serve at Fellowship Place have never taken an overnight trip outside of the city, let alone an activity-filled vacation in the country fresh air, but you can change all that with a donation to Fellowship Place via The Great Give® event.

This year all donations made to Fellowship Place through The Great Give® 36-hour giving drive will be earmarked for the BirgittaTheGreatGive_FellowshipPlace Johnson Campership Fund, which awards annual camp scholarships for Fellowship Place members to experience four days in the country at an adult retreat and vacation center operated by the Salvation Army in eastern Connecticut, Camp CONNRI. Camp CONNRI is located on over 200 acres overlooking a lake surrounded by trees and open space. Activities include boating, swimming, arts & crafts, shuffleboard, archery, and dances.

Making a donation to Fellowship Place through The Great Give is easy. Visit http://www.giveGreater.org/ or http://www.TheGreatGive.org anytime between May 5, 2015, 8 a.m. and May 6, 8 p.m., and search for Fellowship Place and click “Donate Now.” Your gift will provide Fellowship members; low-income adults with mental illness from the inner city, a welcome break from city life.

Special thanks for your interest and support of Fellowship Place’s work with adults who have a mental illness.
