Fellowship Founder Passes Away at 99
Fellowship Place founder Phyllis McDowell passed away over the weekend at age 99. In 1960 Phyllis started a Monday night drop-in social program for individuals living with mental health challenges. Over the next few decades the Monday night program grew and expanded to become the Fellowship Place we know today. Phyllis was a true visionary. She recognized the importance of positive social connections to one’s overall well being long before anyone else was talking about peer support and the need for community based mental health programs.
The Fellowship Place staff, Board of Directors, and the people we serve send our condolences to Phyllis’ family and our appreciation for Phyllis’ leadership and advocacy on mental health.
