Happy Thanksgiving from the Fellowship Place Community

The annual Thanksgiving celebration at Fellowship was a huge success, thanks to our volunteers from First Congregational Church of Guilford, past and current members of the Board of Directors, and our hardworking staff.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal, a musical performance by the Fellowship Place band, and, most of all, friendship and positive social connections.

Dancing, Delights, and Halloween Cheer at Fellowship Place

Fellowship Place  took some  time out for dancing, delicious treats, and, as always, camaraderie at the agency’s annual Halloween party.

Government Shutdown Impacts Food Assistance — Fellowship Place Steps Up, and You Can Too

Food assistance benefits known as SNAP will terminate on 10/31 due to the Government shutdown.  Fellowship Place will help our clients get through this crisis by continuing to provide daily meals seven days a week, but we encourage everyone to contact the offices of Rosa DeLauro, Richard Blumenthal, and Chris Murphy and ask them to  move toward a resolution of the country’s fiscal quagmire .   With  rising prices for food and colder weather around the corner, this is no time to eliminate  SNAP benefits for the disabled, the homeless,  the elderly and others with low and moderate incomes.

Fellowship Founder Passes Away at 99

Fellowship Place founder Phyllis McDowell passed away over the weekend at age 99.   In 1960 Phyllis  started a Monday night drop-in social program for individuals living with mental health challenges.  Over the next few decades the Monday night program grew and expanded  to become the Fellowship Place we know today.  Phyllis was a true visionary.  She recognized the importance of positive social connections to one’s overall well being  long before anyone else was talking about peer support and the need for community based mental health programs.

The Fellowship Place staff, Board of Directors, and the people we serve send our condolences to Phyllis’ family and  our appreciation for Phyllis’  leadership and advocacy on mental health.
