Fellowship Place’s 2nd Annual Expressive Arts Festival a Big Success

Fellowship Place hosted its second Annual Expressive Arts Festival on May 4, on our New Haven campus. Throughout the course of the evening over 100 people attended the free event, which was supported by theExpressive Arts Graphic1 City of New Haven Mayor’s Community Arts Grants Program. Guests were treated to the creative talents of the agency’s clients, including an art exhibit and sale, live performances by Fellowship Place’s seven-piece band, live Poetry readings by Fellowship Place’s writers group, and refreshments & healthy snacks presented by Fellowship Place’s Food Service Training Interns.

Fellowship would like to thank community partners MINDMAPCT and The Regional Mental Health Board, for their support in making the evening a huge success.

 

Fellowship Place Steppers Participate in the 2017 Walk Benefiting NAMI Elm City Chapter.

On Saturday May 20, the Fellowship Place Steppers participated in the 2017 National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Walk benefiting NAMI Elm City Chapter. The walk was held at Hartford’s Bushnell Park. NAMI CT is an important resource in our state that provides critical support to Connecticut families and individuals impacted by serious mental illness. Way to go Steppers!!!

Fellowship Place participated in the 2017 CT Hunger Walk to benefit the CT Food Bank

Fellowship Place participated in the 2017 CT Hunger Walk to benefit the CT Food Bank at Lighthouse Point on April 23.  The Food Bank provides free and discounted food for the agency’s Healthy Meals Program, which offers our clients access to free nutritional meals daily, with menus that increase their intake of fruits, leafy greens, vegetables, & whole grains. The program also exposes them to a variety of educational programs to help them make healthy food choices.

Fellowship Place Participated in the Family & Friends Night at CT Mental Health Center

Fellowship Place participated in the Family & Friends Night at CT Mental Health Center on April 6, honoring local employers who hire people with psychiatric disabilities.

Fellowship Place honored Whitsons Culinary Group for Outstanding Employer of the Year.  Whitsons is a large culinary organization that provides food service to both public and private partners.  They have been hiring Fellowship Place Employment Program clients since 2010 into food service positions at various food service sites, hiring a total of 10 clients. One client was promoted into a management position.

Fellowship Place also honored program participant Leslie Porter for Achieving Employment at a job a Yale New Haven Hospital as a Milieu Counselor.

Fellowship Place is participating in the Great Give® 2017

Fellowship Place provides therapeutic support and daily substructure for over 740 people living with a serious mental illness in the Greater New Haven area.  The agency is open 365 days a year and works with some of the most vulnerable people in the community; individuals trying to overcome the many challenges presented by mental illness, substance abuse, homelessness, and poverty.   Financial support from concerned members of the general-public helps Fellowship Place create a safety net that keeps our clients off the streets, out of the hospital, and on the road to a more productive life.

Fellowship Place is pleased to invite the general public to the agency’s second annual Expressive Arts Festival from 5:00-7:30pm on May 4 on Fellowship Place’s campus, located at 441 Elm Street in New Haven.  Supported by the City of New Haven Mayor’s Community Arts Grants Program, this free event will showcase the creative talents of the agency’s clients.  The evening will include:

  • Art exhibit and sale
  • Live performance by Fellowship Place’s seven-piece band
  • Live poetry readings by Fellowship Place’s writers group
  • Refreshments & healthy snacks presented by Fellowship Place’s Food Service Training Interns

The Expressive Arts Festival will kick off community celebrations for “May is Mental Health Awareness Month”. The expressive arts, including visual arts, writing, and music groups, are used to help program participants express their creativity, build self-confidence, and develop coping skills. We are also thrilled to partner with The South Central Connecticut Regional Mental Health Board and MINDMAP CT. The South Central Connecticut Regional Mental Health Board will host an information table on services available throughout Connecticut. MindMap CT will host an information table on the early detection and treatment of psychotic disorders. MINDMAP is a public information campaign, and collaboration between the Yale Dept. of Psychiatry, the CT Mental Health Center, and the CT Dept. of Mental Health & Addiction Services, aimed at improving early detection of mental illness.

Fellowship Place seeks to help adults with mental illness lead more meaningful, fulfilling and healthy lives by offering resources, education, and opportunity.  The agency provides a wide range of services, including supportive counseling and case management, supported housing, job training and career development services, social & physical recreation programs, expressive arts therapy, and skill building groups.  More than 750 people a year are served.
