Please support the Fellowship Place Steppers in the 2019 Walk Against Hunger, Saturday, May 18th for the CT Food Bank.

On May 18, 2019, the Fellowship Place Steppers will participate in the 2019 Walk Against Hunger for the CT Food Bank, at Savin Rock Park, 6 Rock St, West Haven. The CT Food Bank provided Fellowship with over 16,800 lbs. of food this past year for the Healthy Meals program, which serves our program participants free nutritional meals on a daily basis.

Fellowship Place Food Services Training Program Graduation

On April 23rd Fellowship Place celebrated the graduation of Jonathan from the agency’s Food Services Training program. Jonathan completed the 6-month training program with flying colors; he had excellent attendance and punctuality and was open to constructive feedback as he learned about food safety and sanitation, meal preparation and serving, stocking inventory, and how to run a commercial dishwasher. Jonathan recently passed the Servsafe exam, a National Restaurant Association credential that documents competency in food services. He will now begin a job search in the Food Service industry with the help of his Employment Specialist.

Thank You Yale New Haven Hospital Mobile Mammography Van

A big thank you to Yale New Haven Hospital’s Mobile Mammography Van for visiting Fellowship Place on Wednesday April 23 and providing free mammograms for our female clients.

Betty Williams says giving up crack cocaine was easier than her ongoing struggle to quit cigarettes. “A cigarette is a friend” said Williams, who lives with schizophrenia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. People with mental illness account for 44% of the cigarette purchases in the United States, and they are less likely to quit.

Winners of Fellowship Place’s 2019 Campership Contest Announced

Winners of Fellowship Place’s 2019 Campership Contest were announced at Community meeting on April 9. A total of six awards were given, two for Best Art, three for Best Writing, and one for Best Overall Entry. Winners will receive a free summer vacation to Camp CONNRI, an adult vacation and retreat center in Ashford, CT. Funding is made possible by the Birgitta Johnson Campership Fund for Fellowship Place. Fellowship Place has sponsored the annual trip to CONNRI for the last five years, giving agency clients an opportunity to leave behind urban life and enjoy outdoor activities like swimming, boating, and nature walks.

Fellowship Place Holds Annual Health Fair on Nov 14th

Fellowship Place clients participated in valuable health screenings and received important health & wellness information at the agency’s annual health fair. Exhibiting community agencies included Yale New Haven Hospital, Yale Cancer Center, Cornell Scott Hill Health Center, SCSU Nursing Students, and others.  A special thank you to the New Haven Dept. of Health, which provided free flu shots.
